This gives interested teams a few more weeks to put their experiment or tech demo into a proposal.
Soon after the selection the teams will participate in an online Gravity-Related Experiment Training Week to prepare them.
The GRETW takes place during week four and five of 2022.
While the last couple of years have been full of uncertainties regarding access to university labs and ESA campaigns getting the go-ahead, ESA Academy helps in any way possible to make sure teams reach their goals.
The Spin Your Thesis! programme is quite forgiving in terms of campaign dates, which, with proper discussion and agreements between all parties, can be changed if circumstances affect the project's schedule.
The centrifuge is located at ESA ESTEC, Noordwijk, ESA's largest site dedicated to space research and technology development.
It has an 8m diameter and can generate centrifugal forces equivalent of anything in between 1g and 20g. The experiments are placed inside swing-out gondolas which can accommodate up to 80kg of hardware which, when spinning at 20g makes the outer gondola travel at approximately 120km/h, impressive to see and even more impressive when your experiment is housed within!
